Can I Donate Plasma Two Weeks After Donating Blood?

1

I donated blood two weeks ago, but I really want to start donating plasma to raise money for my trip to Florence. I called in and they said I had to wait 56 days, but I don’t think that’s right because plasma is replenished 48 hours after donation. What are the ricks of donating anyway?

You really do have to wait 56 days until you donate any blood products, after donating whole blood.
Donating too soon could cause anemia, lowered blood pressure, plasma protein and platelet deficiencies (this is a biggie as it could cause your blood not to clot when you need it, and you could bleed out), lowering of the white blood cell count (called panleukopenia, it can increase your risk for infection and your body will not be able to fight them off), and other unforeseeable problems.
Your plasma is mostly water, which is why it is replenished quickly, but it also carries many important things (like your clotting factors). Having given whole blood, it will take your body a while to replenish those things.
