How do I go about getting donations for a community service project?
There’s this community service project that myself and a few other member of my church are involved in called Community Outreach. We are trying to find places to give us dontions such as sheets, blankets, and clothing to take to the homeless. Any one know where would be the best place to start? Any suggestions such as organizations we can ask, etc. is welcome. Please feel free to comment. Thank u & God bless!

ask rich people
Write up an article about your project and submit it to all your local newspapers asking them to run it. If you have a good photo of the group doing the project include that too.
Put notices up on bulletin boards with a number to call if they want to donate.
Hang flyers telling all about your project and ask for donations. Then go to other neighborhoods. Start small!
I think you could probably try local retailers??
Have a plan and then get a good grant writer (if you are seeking funds). If you can’t find one, there are websites and books that will teach you how to write a proposal for a grant.
As for donations like blankets, etc, ask schools if it would be possible to sponsor your organization. At this time of year many schools are looking to sponsor worthy causes with clothing drives and canned food drives.
I am sure your intentions are honest and admirable. However, you will need some kind of documentation to show people that you are legitimate. Most service organizations will help with donations. By service organizations, I mean Lions Club, Kiwanis clubs, Rotary clubs. Another organization that is most helpful is the Salvation Army.
Have you started with a drive or fund raiser in your own church?
Good luck.
I did a fundraiser to raise money for an elephant rescue in Thailand. I had a party and asked for a $10 donation for everyone to come (I also said if you can’t donate, come anyway!). I held it at one of my friend’s houses so that was free. I also went to a Thai restaurant and told them what I was doing and why. I brought some pics of the elephant rescue. They donated food for 50 people! Then I went to everyone I knew, and some business that I didn’t know, and asked them to donate what they could. Some said yes, some said no. I ended up getting a bunch of stuff to silent auction. I spread the word about the party through word of mouth. I ended up raising $2,000 for the rescue, and used a couple hundred dollars of my own money. So after all that, I would say ask everyone you know and anyone that might say yes. You’re doing a good thing, so don’t feel bad if people aren’t in a situation where they can give. It’s not personal. I found so much generosity out there. Have fun!
through me……..
Some ideas:
- Set up some kind of named drive. Print up flyers, then go to all the Housewares, Department stores, etc in the area and offer them advertising space on your flyers and publications in exchange for donations of blankets, etc. Many companies love this kind of “free” advertising
- Create an online fundraising drive. You can check out http://www.fundraisingideas.com, or a lot of other sites. I would be happy to help you with this one.
- You can also talk to your local WalMart, Supermarkets, etc. Many of them will allow you to set up a table outside the front of the store where you can solicit monetary donations or blankets, etc.
Best of luck to you.
