Sex and the City: The Book and the Buzz

Sex and the City

In an early scene of the “Sex and the City” movie, Carrie snuggles up under the covers with Mr. Big and recites from a musty library book called “Love Letters of Great Men.” For fans of the beleaugered pair, the moment reads like a triumphant example of love conquering all. In bed! Reading! Together!

Later, the book surfaces again when its letters play a critical role in what happens between the two characters. Anyone who sees the flick and feels a thump-thump of the heart over the movie’s ending couldn’t be faulted for wanting to buy a copy of the amorous tome. But anyone who actually tries won’t get very far.

The book is made-up. And yet, thousands of people (OK, women) have turned to the Web to look for it. Since the film was released, searches for “love letters of great men” and “sex and the city book” have spiraled upwards, proving to be two of the most popular queries related to the film.

There is hope, though. According to several sources, a book that closely resembles the collection, titled “Love Letters From Great Men and Women: From the Eighteenth Century to the Present Day” not only exists, but is climbing the charts at Amazon and other online retailers. Love prevails! Again!

As for those of you who want a little piece of the movie itself, you might consider another “Sex”-associated volume—the movie’s companion book. It may not have any passionate notes, but it’s got the next best thing: lots and lots of very hot clothes.
