Say I wanted to set up a venture that would collect and distribute funds to individuals or families who needed extra help in times of need. Are there tax implications for these types of donations (maybe a certain threshold whereby donations become taxable)? Is this legal? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Types of donations needed: Event settings – table, chair, linens, silverware, glassware; entertainment, MC, caterer, music, lighting, porta potties, alcohol, silent auction items, etc. This is needed for a gala fundraising event for college scholarships for our seniors and other school assistance.
