People against public assistance frequently complain about being “forced” to help poor people by government policies that raise revenue and assist the needy. Often these people are against the tax system or public housing, food or medical assistance programs. The frequent argument is that it’s not fair that people who worked hard for their money should be forced to give it up to those who didn’t work hard for it.
They argue that charitable donations should be voluntary instead of being required by the government.
