Almost any business wil donate (time, money, items) depending on who you are, what the charity is and how much they have already donated that year. Most have a favourite organization that they regularly contribute to. What bothers me, as a business owner is when people who do not paton my business come from other towns expecting hand outs for things having nothing to do with our town (not inc. cancer, heart & stroke etc…) or the people that live in your town that travel to larger towns and cities to shop because they think its cheaper, failing to do their research in advance. Take for example ; the person that owns the book store is not going to want to donate books for a school fundraiser, to a school that buys their books, at a different store.( only an example) Most of the time these bigger business’, stores, don’t donate, which is why the people need to come back. Try to get your donations from the business’ that you use, People will tend to give more in donations to customers that are loyal.
All the big corporation and manufacturers do You submit your request on a letterhead for your nonprofit group. Include your tax exempt number, what you are requesting, how the items will be used and how the proceeds will be spent
I am chairing a quilt show as a fundraiser for our local library. I sent the requests 12 months prior to the event and things are coming in rapidly. Using the internet I looked up the corporate offices of all makers and distributors of Quilt related items. Sent 60 letters and so far have received 45 donations.
